Citroën Aero-Driving Vision
DE VOLÉE
Citroën Voléro | Autonomous Four-Seat Sedan With Magnetically Levitated Passenger Cabin
In 1955, the Italian automobile designer, sculptor and architect Flaminio Bertoni designed for the French automobile manufacturer Citroën the first legendary DS. A car, which returns to the aerodynamics and reveals against the technical and human operation by its smoothness and lightness.
After 60 years of its first birth, the task of my Bachelor degree project is to revive the niche of DS´s lightness and levitation in a modern, innovative vehicle concept.
"Voléro" derives from the composition of "Volée" and "Aero", "de volée" and "aero-drving" are the interpretations for high-end light, gentle and comfort driving experience.
1955 DS: "an absolutely modern car, which seems not to roll, but to float"; "a metaphoric unity of art and myth"
Levitation: the state between the sky and the ground
天圆地方 “Tian Yuan Di Fang”: a China-based minimalist form language
Levitation, the state between the sky and the ground, guides the idea to „Tian-Yuan-Di-Fang“. Literally it means „the sky is round and the ground is square“.
A circle and a square, they are the roundness and angularity, the softness and hardness. As simple and extremely opposite in its aesthetics as they are, the interaction creates amazingly an exciting result.
Ideation: two-part architecture
Mood: visual experience of levitation
Concept: magnetic levitation
Comfort: cabin|sedan -> space|lounge
Two functional parts: the chassis with ground contact works as the technical part and the floating passenger cabin as the comfort part.
Electromagnetic levitation enables the cabin to float inside the chassis and to adapt itself to the air flow, so that it works as a suspension and protects the passenger from impact and vibration.
Technology: sustainable materials and eco-friendly engineering
Exterior: sports sedan proportion
Interior: mono-volume 4-seat lounge
1:4 scale hard model
Aerodynamics: inspired by excellent cw-values of penguin and manta ray
